About
Hello and welcome to my cricket blog. I’ve always enjoyed discussing cricket, but had never really thought about putting up a blog. Then a while back Cricinfo came out with Inbox, a section where readers could submit their own posts and a few would be published. Just for the hell of it, to see if I’d ever manage to get one published, I submitted a few and was quite naturally delighted when my first blog was published. It was a neutral take on whether a country should be looking to host matches outside its borders if security conditions hindered their ability to host. Imagine my surprise when the blog was published almost in its entirety in a newspaper.
This was certainly inspiring, but I still didn’t even think about bloggin seriously. I was quite content to submit my blogs to cricinfo’s Inbox since this would give me the best chance to present my point of view and discuss issues related to the topic with similar minded folks. And so in late October of 2008 I submitted another post that was published, but which was edited and shortened quite a bit. Although the gist of the idea was published, I felt the motivation for the article and some of the really important parts had been left out. Don’t get me wrong, I was delighted that it was published on Cricinfo, as this presented the idea to the biggest cricket audience on the internet, which ultimately will helps foster the most discussion.
So I decided to post the full version of that blog in case anyone reading it found it didn’t make too much sense and was incomplete. While I was at it, I thought I might as well start my own cricket blog… and so here we are…

Note: The Header Image is from a photo I took during the 2007 World Cup final. I will probably be adding more photos of matches I’ve been to. If you wish to use any of these images, please feel free to do so but all I ask in return is that you acknowledge on your website (or where ever you do use them), that you found the images on this blog.*
* Unfortunately I’ve had to update this because there have been several instances of people using my material without giving due attribution. I am now licensed under Creative Commons, to learn more visit the last link on my sidebar. If you wish to use my work on your website please:
- Go through the Creative Commons License here (and the detailed terms if you are still unsure) and make sure you are comfortable with the permissible restrictions imposed (there really aren’t many)
- Make a clear, legible and unambiguous attribution to “Short Of A Length” or “achettup” close (directly over, next to or under) to the material you have used from my blog
- Link the concerned material and attribution to either http://shortofalength.wordpress.com or the specific post on my blog that you have taken the material from.
I hate to do this but I’m against plagiarism. I take great pains to properly credit the source of any material that I have not created and used on my blog and I expect the same of anyone who uses my material.

ya i love the inbox feature too, just wish they allowed some links back to my own blog hehe.
its a good feature even though they trim down most your articles.
and they do publish most of your work i think.
that header is giving me a few flashbacks. and they are not good ones!
Hi
Please note that I have added your blog site to my site listings and would appreciate it if you could recipricate.
My blog is a light hearted look at cricket within the nether regions, such as Scotland, Ireland, Holland etc.
The URL is http://www.cowcc.blogspot.com/ and the site is called ‘Cow Corner Blog’.
Many thanks
Steve
Sure thing Steve, you’ve been added.
Hi,
I hope you are well. We represent a high quality online sports community website and are looking to increase awareness of the site by advertising on a select few quality websites. We have identified Shortofalength.wordpress.com as one of the site that we would like to potentially advertise with. We are interested in any advertising you may have available and would prefer that the advertising is in the form of a review or contextual link within an article that can be provided by yourself or us.
Our client is also running a new feature on their site in the run up to the IPL and we are looking for a select few sites to take part in the promotion of this. We cannot give too much away at this point but it is an exciting addition to their website.
Please let me know if you are interested in helping.
Thanks and have a great day.
Ian
Ian, I’ve sent you an email, please reply here if you haven’t received it.
Hi achettup,
I never received your email. Could you send it again so that I can know your thoughts about progressing with what I mentioned before.
Ian,
Really enjoy reading this blog – top stuff.
Would you be able to email me when you get the chance? I have something I would like to run by you.
Thanks a lot,
Thomas

I have been curious about your name. Just followed the link to the Cricinfo article. Are you from Kerala, by any chance? I am from there too.
Yep, thats correct Krishna. The screen name was created automatically by a computer and its unique enough
. Which part of Kerala are you from?
I am from Kottayam (a village called Pallom), now in Londonderry, NH. Nice coincidence! Enjoy your blog, especially those blogging wars with DeadBall!
